Configuring SMTP

Postby drvenkatesanj » Fri Mar 07, 2014 9:44 am

Dear Friends,
My domain provider availed the following details
outgoing server: smtp8.net4india.com
POP: POP.NET4INDIA.COM port no. 110

I have tried with following configuration, it did not worked

;Use SMTP for sending mail instead of mail()
smtp = On

;SMTP server settings
smtp_server = smtpauth.net4india.com
smtp_port = 25/587

;Enable SMTP authentication
;Supported mechanisms: PLAIN, LOGIN, CRAM-MD5, and DIGEST-MD5
;smtp_auth = PLAIN
smtp_username = username@domain.org
smtp_password = password

;Allow envelope sender to be specified
; (may not be possible with some server configurations)
allow_envelope_sender = On

; Default envelope sender to use if none is specified elsewhere
default_envelope_sender = journalname@gmail.com
Please tell me if it is wrong and suggest me to get it corrected.

Hi VJ,

The port number needs to be a single number. I suspect your provider's suggestion ("port no. 25/587") means you can use either port 25 or port 587. Port 587 is the default port for SMTP over SSL devliery, which may need additional configuration.
