Activate a scheduled conference

Postby oescalan » Tue Feb 25, 2014 4:48 pm

Dear PKP team,
I am trying to activate a conference with the dates shown in the attached email. I know from this post: https://pkp.sfu.ca/support/forum/viewto ... =13&t=3993 that it is necessary to set the Archival date to a future date to be able to see the conference under the Current section of the website. However, this is not happening. Could you help us understand what is wrong? The version we are running is 2.3.3.
Thank you in advance for your help!
Best,
Octavio Escalante

Hi Octavio,

As long as the current date is between the "First day of conference" and "Last day of conference" dates, the scheduled conference should be listed as current on the Conference's homepage. The scheduled conference also has to be "enabled" -- use the Edit link beside its entry on the Conference Manager's "Hosted Conferences" [ed: corrected this per below] page.

Dear Alec,
Thank you very much for your reply. We managed to get the current conference listed on the website. However, it does not seem right to have to make the website publicly available before running tests. The way it works now does not allow us to have a fully functional sandbox.

Is there a plan to change this in the future?

Best regards,

Hi Octavio,

No current plans to change that behavior, though suggestions are welcome.

Where is the "Scheduled Events" link? I can find an enable checkbox under "Hosted Conferences".
When we enable that, the conference instance appears under current conferences, but the parent conference also is publicly viewable in the index page.
Could we make the parent conference unviewable, yet having the instance appearing under the current conferences?
This is just for testing purpose, as we would like a duplicate of a production conference that is hidden from normal users.

Hi Jean,

Sorry, you're correct -- I meant "Hosted Conferences", not "Scheduled Events". (Post above corrected.)

One option that would give you total flexibility around having a sandboxed installation would be to clone your OCS install and work with that. As designed the enable/disable checkbox should cause the conference to drop off the site entirely, which is consistent with the current behavior on the conference homepage.
