Multiple translations of journal articles

Postby JakeEWB » Sun Feb 02, 2014 7:17 pm

Hi.

I'm wondering what would be the easiest way to allow a user to view multiple translations of journal articles.

Thanks.

Hi JakeEWB,

Upload multiple galley files, one for each language, with appropriate labels. If you've already filled in metadata in several languages, that should flip over when you choose languages from the sidebar; then users will just need to select the appropriate galley when they wish to read the article text.

Hi Alec.

Thanks for your help.

Our journal includes "Plain English language guides", basically a non-technical translation for several of our articles. How would you recommend we implement these on the OJS?

Cheers.

Hi Jake,

I'm not totally sure I know how you'd like these to work, but have you tried the suggestion above? It should be quite flexible.

Hi Alec.

Just to clarify, I should upload the translations via the file browser, create an XML galley document with the template of plugins/importexport/native/sample.xml with the required language metadata and point to the correct file, then when the language is switched the article will flip over to the appropriate translation?

Cheers!

Hi Jake,

You shouldn't need to upload anything through the Journal Manager's "Files Browser" -- anything uploaded there won't be tracked by OJS.

Are you uploading XML files? If yes, how do the multiple languages look -- a separate XML for each language, or all contained in a single file?

If you're uploading other formats (e.g. HTML or PDF), use the Editor's interface. On the Editing page, under Layout, select "Galley" from the radio buttons and upload your file there.
