“selected email address is already in use by another user”

There is a thread on this topic but none of the solutions work for me.
Here is the problem: I created a user (including his email); I deleted the user (because I made a mistake). I try to create the user again, but the email is still “remembered” by the system even though the user no longer appears either in my list as Journal Manage or as Site Administrator. How can I create the same user with the same email, without the system generating the error message.

Hi ojsed,

How did you delete the user? Can you look in your users database table and see if the email address is, in fact, in use by any of the users listed there?

Thanks for responding.
I deleted the user from the All Enrolled Users page by clicking on the "remove" link. Currently the user is not in the list of users. As to looking at the database, I don't know how to do that.

In case someone else has this problem, here is a brief report of how I solved mine.

Following Jason's reference to the database, I found out how to edit the ojs database using phpmyadmin (not so hard). I found that the user I "removed" was still there, so I deleted him manually from the database and was able to re-enter his name and email with no further problems.

Hi all,

Note that the "remove" feature removes all roles that user has with the current journal, conference, or press, but it does not delete the user account entirely. To remove the user account completely, use "Merge Users".
