php 5.5 problems

Are you a Director, Presenter, Reviewer or Conference Manager in need of help? Want to talk to us about workflow issues? This is your forum.

Forum rules
This forum is meant for general questions about the usability of OCS from an everyday user's perspective: conference managers, presenters, and directors are welcome to post questions here, as are librarians and other support staff. We welcome general questions about the role of OCS and how the workflow works, as well as specific function- or user-related questions.

What to do if you have general, workflow or usability questions about OCS:

1. Read the documentation. We've written documentation to cover from OCS basics to system administration and code development, and we encourage you to read it.

2. take a look at the tutorials. We will continue to add tutorials covering OCS basics as time goes on.

3. Post a question. Questions are always welcome here, but if it's a technical question you should probably post to the OCS Technical Support subforum; if you have a development question, try the OCS Development subforum.

Hi, I am using OCS 2.3.5.0 with php 5.3; however, after upgrading to php 5.5, some pages like:

show a blank page on:

Secciones de la conferencia
Equipo organizador
Inscripción

Hi jhisaza,

Blank pages usually indicate PHP errors; check your error log for details. See also the FAQ.

Hello, we have the same issue on http://eale.org. I checked the logs, and found the following:

Code: Select all
[Fri Jan 10 13:26:53.041280 2014] [:error] [pid 24353] [client 93.135.XXX.XXX:50447] PHP Fatal error:  Call to undefined function session_is_registered() in /home/www/eale.org/lib/pkp/classes/session/Session.inc.php on line 64, referer: http://eale.org/conference/index/manager

A quick check for session_is_registered leads us to http://php.net/manual/en/function.sessi ... stered.php with the clear warning:

Warning. This function has been DEPRECATED as of PHP 5.3.0 and REMOVED as of PHP 5.4.0.

So, since we are running PHP 5.5.3, I guess we are out of the game. We are running OCS 2.3.4, but the same problem is present in the current version 2.3.5:

Code: Select all
$ grep session_is_registered ocs-2.3.* -r
ocs-2.3.4/lib/pkp/classes/session/Session.inc.php:      if (session_is_registered($key)) {
ocs-2.3.5/lib/pkp/classes/session/Session.inc.php:      if (session_is_registered($key)) {

Unfortunately, we are unable to downgrade our PHP, so are we stuck, or does anybody know a quick workaround? Thanx a lot in advance
bkbk
