Forum rules
What to do if you have a technical problem with OJS:

1. Search the forum. You can do this from the Advanced Search Page or from our Google Custom Search, which will search the entire PKP site. If you are encountering an error, we especially recommend searching the forum for said error.

2. Check the FAQ to see if your question or error has already been resolved.

3. Post a question, but please, only after trying the above two solutions. If it's a workflow or usability question you should probably post to the OJS Editorial Support and Discussion subforum; if you have a development question, try the OJS Development subforum.

Author Upload Problem and Warning Messages

Postby soj » Tue Nov 21, 2006 10:11 pm

Since updating the OJS we are unable to author-upload new submissions. Attempted to upload a file in author-mode in Step 2. The system dumps us back to the very beginning of Step 1 when we attempt to upload a file in Step 2. No file is recorded the DB. However, all the orginal info input into Step 1 is in the system and a link to the new submission is created in the system. The file we are trying to upload is well under our 50mb max upload limit at 9mb.

I should note that we are able to upload files in Editor-mode.

This may be a more complicated issue than simply the above, because I have Warning Messages suppressed attm - have had since a host php upgrade about a year ago. Re-enabling Warning Messages now produces a pile of errors and in that mode we are unable to do so much as log-in. Thus I cannot currently provide relevant error messages.

I can provide opening errors:

Code: Select all
Errors on opening the site:

SORRY for that pile (and one day before the Holiday weekend - does Canada celebrate this week also?). I should have ck'd for Warning Msgs directly after the update. I have no clue how to address these errors.

According to my web host, the php version is 4.4.1 on a FreeBSD 4.11-STABLE server. We are using OJS 2.1.1 with mysql Ver 12.22 Distrib 4.0.27. No apparent changes there recently.

At your convenince, and TIA ...

Hi Soj,

No holiday, sadly -- our Thanksgiving came a while ago.

Those errors can all be ignored, but unfortunately they make it difficult to use the site. Try the following to see if there are any more helpful error messages:
  • With error messages disabled, log in and begin the submission process right up until you press the "Upload" button to upload a submission.
  • Insert the following line into index.php, near the top, to enable the display of error messages:
    Code: Select all
    ini_set('display_errors', E_ALL);
  • Press the "Upload" button and see what output is generated. (Post it here if you have questions about it, making sure to remove anything you don't want to reveal to the world.)
  • Don't forget to remove the ini_set line when you're finished.

Hi Soj,

Hmm, none of that explains the author submission problem. Could you email me personally with an author login to your OJS install so that I can investigate?

This issue has turned out to be file size related. File is too big to upload using a hosting service. Sorry to waste the Bandwidth! soj

Hi Soj,

No problem -- happy to help. If anyone is interested, there is a little discussion of work-arounds at http://pkp.sfu.ca/support/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1416.
