What to do if you have a technical problem with OJS:

1. Search the forum. You can do this from the Advanced Search Page or from our Google Custom Search, which will search the entire PKP site. If you are encountering an error, we especially recommend searching the forum for said error.

2. Check the FAQ to see if your question or error has already been resolved.

3. Post a question, but please, only after trying the above two solutions. If it's a workflow or usability question you should probably post to the OJS Editorial Support and Discussion subforum; if you have a development question, try the OJS Development subforum.

Articles' Public ID!

Postby Albert » Mon Oct 21, 2013 12:11 pm

Hello There!
When setting up the DOI plugin (Home > User > Journal Manager > System Plugins > DOI Plugin Settings) I entered the prefix (10. 16XXX) and selected “Enter an individual DOI suffix for each published item independent and different from the "Custom Identifier" mentioned in the previous option. You'll find an additional DOI input field on each item's meta-data page.” Now when creating a new issue I entered the DOI Suffix for the issue and for each article in “Edit Article Metadata”, I entered the DOI Suffix. Then I deleted the information I had in the article “Public Identifier” thinking that OJS 2.4.1 would generate it. Nevertheless, the field is now blank. Should I enter the whole DOI (dx.doi.org/10.16XXX/pqrz.2013.1.01) in the public identifier field? I would appreciate very much your help.
Regards,
Albert

Hi Albert,

The "Public Identifier" field is distinct from DOIs and is never filled in with DOI information. It's (optinally) used as part of the DOI suffix if you've configured it that way, but it doesn't sound like that's what you want. DOIs will show up elsewhere.

Hello Alec,
Thank you for your reply. I entered the DOI because the field was blank. Nevertheless, if we add the DOI to each article and issue, can we leave the Public Identifier empty?

Hi Albert,

Yes; that field is not required, and only becomes part of the DOI if you specifically configure DOIs that way.
