Issue galleys with complete content?

Postby emilymfg » Fri Oct 04, 2013 3:37 pm

Hi there - I'm in the process of finalising the first issue of a journal published with OJS. The final galleys (PDFs) of each article are all on the system though not published yet. However I'm having trouble uploading a PDF that contains the whole contents of the journal in one document. When I click through 'Table of Contents' and then 'Issue Galleys', I've tried uploading a PDF that consists of all of the articles together as one PDF. It seems like it works, only the file which uploads is 0 bytes, and if I click 'view proof' I can see it's empty.

Is the problem that the journal hasn't actually been published yet? It seems odd as in the 'Issue preview' window I can download all of the individual journal PDFs, just not the 'Full Issue' one.

thanks, Emily

Hi Emily,

How big is the file? You might be hitting an upload limit.

Hi Alec, It's only 910k, so that can't be it! Any other ideas?

Hi Alec, it's 2.4.2.0. It was installed on our uni server just about a month ago?

Hi Emily,

I'd suggest double-checking that the file permissions are correct in your files_dir as configured in config.inc.php. Your issue galley should be saved somewhere like...
Code: Select all
[files_dir]/journals/[journal_id]/issues/[issue_id]/public/[issue_id]-[file_id]-PB.pdf
...where [files_dir] is the location configured in config.inc.php, and [journal_id], [issue_id], and [file_id] are numerical identifiers. It would be unusual but not impossible to have an upload limit set below 1MB, but for the sake of testing, try also uploading a small file (particularly one you already know can be uploaded). Finally, also check your server's error log to see if anything helpful shows up there.

Hi Alec, just following up to note that after I published the issue, there seemed to be no problem with uploading a full issue galley!

Thanks, Emily

Hi Emily,

I wonder if that's a red herring; I can't duplicate that behavior or see anywhere in the code where there would be a dependency on the issue being published. If it's only a specific issue that you can't upload an issue galley for, that reinforces my suspicion that you're dealing with file permission problems.
