Forum rules
What to do if you have a technical problem with OCS:

1. Search the forum. You can do this from the Advanced Search Page or from our Google Custom Search, which will search the entire PKP site. If you are encountering an error, we especially recommend searching the forum for said error.

2. Check the FAQ to see if your question or error has already been resolved. Please note that this FAQ is OJS-centric, but most issues are applicable to both platforms.

3. Post a question, but please, only after trying the above two solutions. If it's a workflow or usability question you should probably post to the OCS Conference Support and Discussion subforum; if you have a development question, try the OCS Development subforum.

Pre-defined keyword list

Postby Khewett » Tue Sep 24, 2013 2:10 pm

A client is requesting that keywords used for paper submissions come exclusively from a pre-defined list, with a maximum of five keywords to a paper (instead of the current 'write-in' textbox). I've been trying to find a method or a plugin that will allow this, but I haven't had any luck.

Is there a way to modify the paper submission process to work this way? I have a tenuous grasp of PHP and MYSQL, but I'm unsure where to begin and I'm worried I would just break something. Am I better off hiring someone to make this modification?

Hi Khewett,

You're of course free to set up a local installation and tinker with it -- with no fear of breaking the production install -- but I suspect it'll take more than a tinkerer's level of experience. There are a few threads about this on the forum ("controlled vocabularies") but nothing finished.

Thank you so much for the response!

Would it be possible to hire someone to develop a plugin like this? If so, where should I look?

Hi Khewett,

There's the Consulting, Employment, and Volunteer Opportunities forum; we also offer our own consulting & development services; and since it's a LAMP application, a good PHP developer ought to be able to work with it, though there will be something of a learning curve for people who haven't worked with PKP software before.
