What to do if you have a technical problem with OJS:
1. Search the forum
. You can do this from the Advanced Search Page
or from our Google Custom Search
, which will search the entire PKP site. If you are encountering an error, we especially recommend
searching the forum for said error.
2. Check the FAQ
to see if your question or error has already been resolved.
3. Post a question
, but please, only after trying the above two solutions. If it's a workflow or usability question you should probably post to the OJS Editorial Support and Discussion
subforum; if you have a development question, try the OJS Development
we have found a problem in our instance of OJS (2.3.6) in our institution.
The field setting_value of the table journal_settings is of text type, text type allow text up to 64kbytes of size.
This value may not be enougth for certains settings, like about, so we have changed the type from text to mediumtext, that allows text up to 16Mbytes.
Did you have this problem?
In later versions (>2.3.6), this field have been changed?
Can cause this change of the type inconsistences or problems in the database of OJS?
Thank you from now.

New releases of OJS still use the "text" type. We're using ADODB for database abstraction, and unfortunately it doesn't allow as much flexibility in data types as MySQL does (since it needs to abstract support for several DBMSs, not just MySQL). However, your modification should work without problems. Beware that if/when you run an upgrade, the database descriptor will by synced against the database, which may mean that the data type is reverted and the data is chopped down to fit.
