Forum rules
This forum is meant for general questions about the usability of OJS from an everyday user's perspective: journal managers, authors, and editors are welcome to post questions here, as are librarians and other support staff. We welcome general questions about the role of OJS and how the workflow works, as well as specific function- or user-related questions.

What to do if you have general, workflow or usability questions about OJS:

1. Read the documentation. We've written documentation to cover from OJS basics to system administration and code development, and we encourage you to read it.

2. take a look at the tutorials. We will continue to add tutorials covering OJS basics as time goes on.

3. Post a question. Questions are always welcome here, but if it's a technical question you should probably post to the OJS Technical Support subforum; if you have a development question, try the OJS Development subforum.

Unrecord a Decision?

Is it possible to roll back a decision after it's been recorded?

I've tried selecting "Choose One" from the "Record Decision" drop-down menu, but no dice. (Curiously, this doesn't even get an error, it just has no effect.)

Hi jweisber,

Decisions can't be deleted -- they're part of the submission's editorial record, even if they're mistakes -- but you ought to be able to subsequently record a different decision without any problematic effects. You can use the History tab to add a note clarifying what happened in case you're curious a few years down the line.

Hi Alec, thanks for clarifying.

I realize the decision can be changed, but my concern is that the author can see the decision even though it's erroneous. The author may take an erroneous or premature decision decision at face value and act accordingly, by moving on to another journal for example.

It makes sense that the recording of a decision should be part of a submission's permanent history. And it makes sense that another, different decision can be recorded later. What's puzzling is that "No Decision" can't be recorded once (say) "Decline Submission" has been recorded.

Hi jweisber,

I've spoken a little bit with the team internally and, surprisingly for a workflow that's been around for such a long time, we haven't got a way to hide an erroneous decision yet. I've filed this at http://pkp.sfu.ca/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=8327. (Feel free to CC yourself on that entry so you'll be notified when its status changes.)
