OJS2 and Handle Server

Are you an Editor, Author, or Journal Manager in need of help? Want to talk to us about workflow issues? This is your forum.

Forum rules
This forum is meant for general questions about the usability of OJS from an everyday user's perspective: journal managers, authors, and editors are welcome to post questions here, as are librarians and other support staff. We welcome general questions about the role of OJS and how the workflow works, as well as specific function- or user-related questions.

What to do if you have general, workflow or usability questions about OJS:

1. Read the documentation. We've written documentation to cover from OJS basics to system administration and code development, and we encourage you to read it.

2. take a look at the tutorials. We will continue to add tutorials covering OJS basics as time goes on.

3. Post a question. Questions are always welcome here, but if it's a technical question you should probably post to the OJS Technical Support subforum; if you have a development question, try the OJS Development subforum.

Postby eruthes » Fri May 26, 2006 1:27 pm

Is there somebody working whith ojs2 on handle server? The url format is not a problem to index the items?

Could someone describe your experiences?

Hi Eduardo,

Nobody on the development team has specific experience with the Handle system, but off the top of my head, I can't think of any reason OJS wouldn't cooperate with it. Please post your experiences here in case other users are curious.

Hi cristianvisa,

One of our partners wrote a plugin for this -- see http://www.synergiesprairies.ca/node/76.

Hi cristianvisa,

That's the Handle service that is responsible for assigning PIDs to articles. I don't recall exactly, but that may have been a custom piece of software -- you'll have to ask the authors of that plugin, who I believe are identified in the plugin's documentation.

Hello asmecher.

me again :S . I have now more information about PID plugins,but don't understand some point this settings plugin (more specific two point). I attachement a image more illustration:
http://www.subimelafoto.com.ar/images/740snapshot1.png
plugins.generic.form.pidAssignorPath: path the local server handle.net
plugins.generic.form.pidResolverPath: path the handle.net
plugins.generic.form.pidUsername: ??
plugins.generic.form.pidPassword: ??

two question so in
plugins.generic.form.pidUsername= ??
plugins.generic.form.pidPassword= ??

whats username put here, and Password? put password and user the OJS
for the journal setup ?? or whats pass and user?

Your previus responde for this thas is:
In the tutorial: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1I0d86Lr-IdZdThIoml4mlkT7GKOcJKuDSiCby8R42Zc/edit?usp=sharing
say in the step 5:
5) Please contact the Synergies Calgary node for the PID username and password
after install, I contact whith this person an, him response this:
After you install the PlugIn on the server you need the user name and password for the journal setup as below.
UName = [removed]
P = [removed]

The problem is that I'm my own server server handle.net and i don't understad what key put in pidUsername
plugins.generic.form.pidPassword.

I know you are not the developer of this plugin, but it certainly has a clearer vision of what I put in these places :) :) :)

Hi cristianviza,

As I recall -- and I'm not certain about this -- there was a custom piece of software written by the maintainer of that plugin to assign new PIDs when contacted by OJS through a web service. That web service has a password and that's what the fields here are for. (I've removed the username and password from the post above; please don't share those unless you've gotten permission from the plugin maintainer.) I think you'll need to organize some kind of web service that OJS can contact to request a new PID -- but better to ask the plugin developer, as I'm not certain of the details.

It also looks like that plugin is missing a Spanish translation, which is why you're getting all the ##locale.key.names## instead of actual text.

Hello asmecher :
you are right, through a web service(tomcat + Apache AXIS).
http://www.subimelafoto.com.ar/images/568snapshot2.png
now I found :
http://pkp.sfu.ca/ojs/doxygen/current/h ... ource.html
could use these features to those services?

best wishes

Hi cristianviza,

The first link appears to show the web services for the Synergies Handle service, which is intended for participants in the Canadian Synergies project. The second link is generated documentation of the PID plugin that you've already downloaded, which is intended for use with this service. Obviously if the plugin provider has given you credentials for that service then they're OK with you using it, but I would caution against it, as your journal is not a participant in the Synergies project.

If you have another Handle service of your own, then you could ask about getting access to the adapter service pictured at your first link to see if it's suitable for your own uses.
