Setting dates for a single day conference/workshop

Are you a Director, Presenter, Reviewer or Conference Manager in need of help? Want to talk to us about workflow issues? This is your forum.

Forum rules
This forum is meant for general questions about the usability of OCS from an everyday user's perspective: conference managers, presenters, and directors are welcome to post questions here, as are librarians and other support staff. We welcome general questions about the role of OCS and how the workflow works, as well as specific function- or user-related questions.

What to do if you have general, workflow or usability questions about OCS:

1. Read the documentation. We've written documentation to cover from OCS basics to system administration and code development, and we encourage you to read it.

2. take a look at the tutorials. We will continue to add tutorials covering OCS basics as time goes on.

3. Post a question. Questions are always welcome here, but if it's a technical question you should probably post to the OCS Technical Support subforum; if you have a development question, try the OCS Development subforum.

Setting dates for a single day conference/workshop

Postby sasutton » Thu Apr 18, 2013 9:35 am

I have a one day conference and am having trouble with dates. In the Conference Timeline and Information you have to set the First and Last days of a conference. Then, it shows those dates in the header. But if you have a single day meeting (i.e., First/Last the same), the header nevertheless shows both dates (the same) separated by a hyphen. I am likely missing something in the setup, but is there a way to designate a single day and only have the single date in the header? I am prepared to be embarrassed by the simplicity/obviousness of the answer.

Hi Stuart,

Actually, there is no option to correct that. My recommendation: open templates/schedConf/index.tpl and find the code that displays the dates...
Code: Select all
{if $schedConf->getSetting('startDate')}<h2>{$schedConf->getSetting('startDate')|date_format:$dateFormatLong} &ndash; {$schedConf->getSetting('endDate')|date_format:$dateFormatLong}</h2>{/if}
Add a conditional that only includes the second date if it's different from the first...
Code: Select all
{if $schedConf->getSetting('startDate')}
        {assign var=startDate value=$schedConf->getSetting('startDate')|date_format:$dateFormatLong}
        {assign var=endDate value=$schedConf->getSetting('endDate')|date_format:$dateFormatLong}
        <h2>{$startDate}{if $startDate != $endDate} &ndash; {$endDate}{/if}</h2>
{/if}
I haven't tested this code, so please report back with your results.

Hey Alec, our OJS and OCS instances are now hosted through the PKP hosting service at Simon Fraser. I'll submit a ticket, point them to your post and report back.

Hi Stuart,

In that case, best to go through the ticketing system -- it's often more responsive -- but please do report back here afterwards.
