CentOS and PHP APC Library issues

Postby ramon » Fri Apr 05, 2013 9:03 am

Hello all,

We found out, working with another institution, that PHP's APC library (php-pecl-apc) may cause session conflicts when running in CentOS.
It was initially thought that it was related to timezone not configured in php.ini, but it wasn't the case.
We don't know if anyone has run into this yet, couldn't find anything related here.
Just thought people should know...

Here's a link about the APC-CentOS issue (haven't read it, just received and forwarded)

The user reported that disabling APC solved the problem.

Hi Ramon,

There's a patch at http://pkp.sfu.ca/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=8151 that should work around the issue; alternately, we use XCache for our hosting without problems.

Hello Alec,

Thanks!
This is not in the patches list... We tend not to check GitHub much as we can't use it here (stupid network restrictions in effect)...

Hi Ramón,

We haven't included it in recommended patches because a) it's not widely tested and b) it's technically a bug in either APC or PHP (depending on who you ask). If you're able to try it out, that would be a valuable data point and might well lead to us adding it to recommended patches.
