[SOLVED] Paypal setup (find how to set up paypal)

Hello All

I am sorry to ask this simple question, but I am not understanding this at all and I have read and read about it. I am sure it is something simple.

I want to understand what I need to put under:

Payments Methods and I select Paypal.

We have two things to enter as I understand from the screen:

1- IPN URL

2- email address (seller account)

So for the above item number 2, I just need to enter the email address that I used to subscribe to paypal?

For item number 1 above. Where do I get this URL? I have logged onto paypal, but I do not know where to find this? Can someone explain? I have already read the wiki, and did not understand it.

Please help.

Finally, you provide the below link in OCS. Is this the link I need to enter in the paypal system under my profile? If so this is what I should see then?

You have turned on the IPN feature. You can view your IPNs on the IPN History page. If necessary, you can resend IPN messages from that page. For more information on using and troubleshooting this feature, read more about Instant Payment Notification (IPN).

To stop receiving IPNs permanently, click Turn Off IPN.

Notification URL https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr
Message delivery Enabled

Ok - So to make this easier and in the hope someone would help, I will ask one question at a time. Can you please answer by Yes or No.

1- You provide this link in OCS payment page. https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr
2- Is this the link I need to enter in the paypal system under IPN section?

Thank you for this, but I read the wiki many times and I do not understand it (also the section about OCS at the end is not finalised, so not sure if I am right or wrong). Apologies for this, but a newbie in this world of paypal and OCS.

From What I understand there are four parameters to get right for the payment to work. Two parameters in the OCS and two in the paypal account.

So here is what I do understand:

In the paypal account:

1- I need to set the Notification URL https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr
2- I need to set the Message delivery Enabled

Is this alright?

In the OCS payment

1- I have no clue where I get the IPN URL - Please help on this matter.
2-I need to set Seller Account* with the email I used in paypal.

I think item above is fine. I am struggling with item 1.

Hi pureenergycentre,

OCS automatically tells PayPal what IPN configuration to use, so there is no need to configure IPNs in your PayPal account.

In OCS's configuration, for the IPN URL, the instructions are directly under the IPN URL field:

This is the URL to PayPal's Instant Payment Notification (IPN) service. For testing, use https://www.sandbox.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr; for production systems, use https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr.

Thank you for this. So for the avoidance of doubt.

In the paypal account:

1- I do not need to set the IPN Notification URL i.e; I leave it empty.
2- I do not need to set the Message delivery to Enabled

So in summary - Nothing to be done in the paypal account.

In the OCS payment

1- I put the following URL under the IPN URL* - https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr
2- I need to set Seller Account with the email I used in paypal.

That is all?

Please see the below image that made all of the confusion. On this image it is shown that the link (https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr) must be inserted in the paypal account. Please see the picture as it clearly shows the URL http://pkp.sfu.ca/wiki/index.php/File:Paypal12.png



The text also mentions to insert the URL (https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr) in paypaL

Would you mind to get this changed in wiki?

Those instructions (like much else in the wiki) are user-contributed; they contained extra unnecessary instructions but nothing that would case PayPal not to work. I've removed the extras.
