What to do if you have a technical problem with OJS:

1. Search the forum. You can do this from the Advanced Search Page or from our Google Custom Search, which will search the entire PKP site. If you are encountering an error, we especially recommend searching the forum for said error.

2. Check the FAQ to see if your question or error has already been resolved.

3. Post a question, but please, only after trying the above two solutions. If it's a workflow or usability question you should probably post to the OJS Editorial Support and Discussion subforum; if you have a development question, try the OJS Development subforum.

Cannot upload any file to OJS website

Postby amohadjel » Wed Feb 06, 2013 12:57 pm

Hi,

I have a OJS-based website running three journals. The website was functional for two years until few weeks ago when I noted that no one can upload any file to website under any section. We have enough disc space, but I have no idea how to fix this issue. I would be grateful if any one here can help me fix it. Many thanks.

Kind regards,
amohadjel

Hi amohadjel,

Check that the files_dir in your config.inc.php is correct and that the file permissions for that directory (and all of its contents) are appropriate.

Hi Alec,

Thank you very much for your reply. Could you please tell me how to check my config.inc.php and the file permissions for that directory? Many thanks

Hi amohadjel,

If you find the line describing "files_dir" in your config.inc.php configuration file, what does it read? Is it a valid directory on your server, and if so, what does it contain?

I cannot really find this line. Could you check my server for this?

Hi amohadjel,

Sorry, we can guide you through it but logging into your server is beyond what we can provide outside of our consulting services.
Were you able to find and read your config.inc.php configuration file? It should have a section like...
Code: Select all
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
; File Settings ;
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

[files]

; Complete path to directory to store uploaded files
; (This directory should not be directly web-accessible)
; Windows users should use forward slashes
files_dir = (something here)
That last line is the one to check.

I finally found this:

[files]

; Complete path to directory to store uploaded files
; (This directory should not be directly web-accessible)
; Windows users should use forward slashes
files_dir = "/hsphere/local/home/ijhomcom/bmijournal.org/files"

; Path to the directory to store public uploaded files
; (This directory should be web-accessible and the specified path
; should be relative to the base OJS directory)
; Windows users should use forward slashes
public_files_dir = public

; Permissions mask for created files and directories
umask = 0022
; Permissions mask for created files and directories
umask = 0022

Hi amohadjel,

Good, now check that "/hsphere/local/home/ijhomcom/bmijournal.org/files" exists on your server (it should contain e.g. "journals", "site", and "temp" subdirectories). If it does, then chances are your problem is with file permissions. Unfortunately the appropriate file permissions will vary from server to server; search the forums for posts about file permissions and you'll find lots of guidance.

Hi amohadjel,

Your question is ambiguous; are you asking which subdirectory of /hsphere/local/home/ijhomcom/bmijournal.org/files submission files will be uploaded into?
