Different subscription types

Is there a way to create additional subscription "master" types? Currently OJS supports Individual and institution, but we have a third "library" type. Additionally, we use Site licenses and FTEs as sub categories. Any thoughts?

You would need to extend the existing code/database/templates with your customizations.

Journals that use the OJS subscription features typically use the institution type for libraries -- can you describe in more detail the difference between the existing institution type and your library type?

Thank you Michael-

As we still supply printed journals, Library subscription have a print copy replacement option where we will ship them a printed copy for free is lost. Additionally, they do not get online access by default. Lastly, the subscription pricing is dependent on the number of FTEs that the librarian registers the subscription for. We were on the two tiered model implemented in OJS about 15 years ago and migrated to the three teir to support libraries better.

Is this system extensible or are the two types hard coded?

Hi Rich,

The two types are hard-coded into the system.

However, the institutional subscription type will allow you to differentiate between print, online, and print + online subscriptions.

Re: FTEs, perhaps you could create a longer list of institutional subscription types for the most common FTE allotments, assuming these fall within well-defined ranges that correspond to cost. These could cover the majority of libraries (for special cases, you could create one-time, custom subscription types).
