problem creating a press

Postby matas » Tue Nov 06, 2012 7:37 am

Hi,
I just downloaded OMP beta 1.0 and installed on local server. I am using WAMPSERVER.
I installed OMP correctly, created database and etc.
When I want to start to create a new press I press ADD press and then write Press Name,Press description and Path.
when I press save it does nothing and I can't see setup wizard or anything.
maybe it's a problem because I am using apache server,not a linux?
Or maybe I need to enable some modules?
Thank you.

Hi Matas,

Apache and PHP should log errors if there are problems. Can you look in your Apache error_log and see if there is anything there that may be relevant?

You can use other operating systems besides Linux -- I develop for OMP on a Mac.

And when I press add new press and write information about press system won't go to setup wizard and page is always loading and I get an error message on apache error log:

Hi matas,

I suspect that there are a few errors in the log that may be masking the original issue. Your most recent post with the CatalogHandler errors would stem from visiting the front of the OMP installation when OMP thinks that a) it is installed and b) there is something indicating that a press object should exist but in fact there is not. The warnings you see in your older post shouldn't have prevented press creation. Can I ask how you initially installed OMP? Was it via the web interface? Did you edit your config.inc.php file at all, either before or after? If you start over with a fresh install of OMP and try to create a press, I would be interested in knowing the error you receive when you save the press and the wizard does not appear.

I installed via web interface, just put OMP files to www folder on WAMP directory and installation appears on web browser. I do nothing with config.inc.php but I follow installation instructions to install. maybe something wrong is with database? but when I install everything wokrs fine, it creates a database on my server.
I did reinstall like 5 times and it is the same issues.
When I am saving a press when i press save, the round thing keeps spinning like "loading" but it never loads to setup wizard, and when I press on the web that small window "creating a press" disapears and it shows that press is created and when I want to edit, it's the same problem all I can change is description, and path.

Hi matas,

I guess its that last step where I am wondering if there is an error in a log. When you say:

When I am saving a press when i press save, the round thing keeps spinning like "loading" but it never loads to setup wizard...

That's where I am wondering about the error. Anything client side? Javascript error, perhaps? What browser are you using? If you have access to Firefox or Chrome, Firefox has a Firebug extension that can be installed to give better debugging tools. Chrome has its own set of built-in development tools that may help if there are errors there.

Hi matas,

Ah, that's probably a permission problem. OMP needs the cache/ directory to be writable by the web server in order to store templates. On a UNIX server, this is usually fixed with either a chmod or a chown command, once you know who the web server is running as (often _www or the 'nobody' user).

Hi Matas,

That's a permissions problem, for sure. From the video, I can't see what the file mode is on the 'cache' directory inside of omp1. Can you check? The message your saw in Firebug is fine -- it's just a note about character encoding.

Cheers,
Jason
