What to do if you have a technical problem with OJS:

1. Search the forum. You can do this from the Advanced Search Page or from our Google Custom Search, which will search the entire PKP site. If you are encountering an error, we especially recommend searching the forum for said error.

2. Check the FAQ to see if your question or error has already been resolved.

3. Post a question, but please, only after trying the above two solutions. If it's a workflow or usability question you should probably post to the OJS Editorial Support and Discussion subforum; if you have a development question, try the OJS Development subforum.

BUG? 404 error pages.

Postby imtechnology » Mon Sep 24, 2012 8:04 pm

Think I've found another bug.

It affects v2.3.7 and also v2.4.0

404 pages are not handled correctly if URLs are in the following format

Code: Select all
http://www.domainname.com/index.php?option=com_k2

As someone who has merged from a Joomla installation where the URLs were all formatted like this, it is extremely important that these sorts of URLs are handled appropriately and a 404 page is displayed.

You can see what I mean in a live example by visiting the demo website using this address:
http://pkp.sfu.ca/ojs/demo/present/index.php?option=com_k2

Any help in resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Ed.

Hi Ed,

Do you mean that you're expecting to see a 404 when e.g. the "option" parameter is something OJS doesn't recognize? That's not a bug -- I can't think of any application will respond that way to a parameter it doesn't use.

Hi Alec!

I do indeed mean that I am expecting a 404 page.

Is there a work around for something like this?

Thanks!

Hi imtechnology,

You would either have to modify the code (lib/pkp/classes/core/PKPPageRouter.inc.php for the most conceptually clean modification, or index.php for the quickest hack OTOH) or make use of mod_rewrite rules or some other Apache-level configuration options. In my opinion, configuring Apache to catch these would be the cleanest solution.
