Forum rules
This forum is meant for general questions about the usability of OJS from an everyday user's perspective: journal managers, authors, and editors are welcome to post questions here, as are librarians and other support staff. We welcome general questions about the role of OJS and how the workflow works, as well as specific function- or user-related questions.

What to do if you have general, workflow or usability questions about OJS:

1. Read the documentation. We've written documentation to cover from OJS basics to system administration and code development, and we encourage you to read it.

2. take a look at the tutorials. We will continue to add tutorials covering OJS basics as time goes on.

3. Post a question. Questions are always welcome here, but if it's a technical question you should probably post to the OJS Technical Support subforum; if you have a development question, try the OJS Development subforum.

HOW TO restrict access to non subscribers??

Postby cwestlake » Tue Jul 31, 2012 11:02 pm

Hello,

We have set up a number of subscription types, around 8 in total, all charging different fees, linked to a PayPal payment facility. When someone registers on the site at the moment it allows them to access all content without subscribing first - which is NOT what we want. We want to set it up so a person registers and has restricted access until they have subscribed to one of the subcription types. How do I set this up? Any help would be greatly appreciated! :)

Hi cwestlake,

If you haven't already done so, you will need to modify the issue data for each issue that should require subscription access. You can also set an open access date if you'd like to have the issue accessible without subscription at a later date.

Cheers,
Michael

Many thanks for your answer Michael. I've gone into 'Create Issue' as an Editor to change the Access settings but on that page the headings are only:

1. Identification 2. Cover

From looking at notes on Google there should be a third stage:

3. Access (where you can change the access status to subscription). No.3 is not appearing. Can you think of any reason why?

Many thanks, Cat

Hi Cat,

This is likely as a result of Bug 7543 -- can you please try applying the patch attached to the bug report and see if that fixes the issue for you?

If you're not able to apply patches to your install, you'll need to disable the delayed open access checkbox under Subscription Policies, edit your issue data settings, and then re-enable the checkbox.

Cheers,
Michael
