Empty Author Email plugin

This plugin is for OJS 2.3.5 (tested). When enabled, it disables the metadata form constraint which forces authors to have valid email addresses. We've had a few situations here at UNB where we bulk import back issues of journals and not all authors have email addresses. This causes problems when our journal editors edit the metadata for these articles. Because the plugin can be toggled on and off, you can disable the constraint while working on your back issues and then re-enable it to prevent new authors from submitting content for peer review without providing an email address.

Minor revisions to plugin, tested with OJS 2.3.5 & 2.3.6. Fixes class name typo in version.xml that prevents plugin from installing properly.

This sounds like a great plugin - I've run into this problem too, so I can see it as being quite useful. I've tried to install it in OJS 2.3.7, but can't get it to work. Is there anything that can be done to get it to work with the latest version?

it is "enabled", but the asterisk is still there...
any idea?

Hi,
I have 2.3.7 and the same problem: the email-field in step 3 (Entering the Submission's Metadata)
is required. I cannot save with an emty email.
If I use the QuickSubmit Plugin there is the same error.

Hi Theodore,

The asterisk will remain. The plugin just removes the validation of the field when the metadata form is submitted.

well, still not working...
ti keeps saying that:
• A valid email address is required.

as it is an "empty author email" plugin, shouldn't make it accept blank email??

I am not sure if it works with the QuickSubmit plugin but it does work with the regular "edit submission metadata" functionality.

The problem is still persisting when I go to edit article metadata and leave the e-mail field blank - it gives the same reply, as it did before I had the plugin installed: "The first name, last name, and email address of each author is required."


Any ideas on what might be going wrong?

Hi Roger,

Two dumb questions on my part:

1. The plugin is enabled, yes? You have to install it, and also enable it.
2. The other parts of an author's name are still required. The plugin only removes the email constraint.

Those are not dumb questions : ) , but yes, the plugin is installed and enabled. And, when I got that error about needing both the author first name and last name, the author's last and first names' field had values, but the e-mail field was empty.

Hello all,

If I remember correctly, using <![CDATA[]]> within the email field was a way to "fool" OxS so it didn't require the email.
This was used for importing old issues, when articles were published in an age without Internet...
Not sure it still works.
