We have a journal where we request the author to include a self-review as part of the submission. It would be nice if this can be added as a step during the submission process. The step should be a toggle since not all journals require it.
I noticed there are plugin hooks for the submission process. Would it be possible for us to create a plugin for this feature or would it make more sense to integrate it as part of the code base?

Hi Brian,
Could you describe the process in a little more detail?
There are many plugin hooks scattered throughout the workflow process, but as it stands, the workflow itself isn't particularly customizable by plugins. You'd probably be best off implementing this by modifying the codebase. We hope to make the workflow much more modifiable using plugins in a future release.

Step 1. Start
Step 2. Enter Metadata
Step 3. Upload Submission
Step 4. Upload Self-Review <---- New step (optional per journal)
Step 5. Upload Supplementary Files
Step 6. Confirmation.
The self-review is mandatory. Author can download the same review form provided to reviewers (.pdf, .doc, .txt) to fill out. The author can then upload the review or copy & paste it into a form during Step 4. This self-review should appear as the first review for the article (i.e. Round 1, Reviewer A) or separate from the other reviews. Additionally, the review needs to be viewable when the article is unassigned because the self-review is used by the editor to determine whether to accept the article for review or not.

Hi Brian,
Currently, OJS can accomodate this in a limited fashion if authors are also registered as reviewers; the Editor can assign the Author as a first-round reviewer and oversee the process as usual. To implement this in a more streamlined fashion, though, you'll need to modify the codebase.

Brian
Authors could be instructed in the Author Guidelines and in the Checklist to upload a Self-Review as a Supplementary File in the submission process, and can be labelled as such. It will be available to the editors, and potentially but not necessarily to the reviewers. Additional Supplementary Files can be uploaded as well. A further self-review can be uploaded by the author as a SF after the reviews.
