OCS 1.1.5 with multiple language support available!

As we promised nearly eight months ago, we have developed a multiple languages version of OCS.

We have not just translated OCS's text messages, but also modified the software to provide conference data in several languages. This means you can publish your conference(s) in as many languages as you wish at the same time (which was our primary goal).

Users will get a default language the first time they visit a conference (each conference may have a different set of languages) and they will be able to change that language any time they want. All the conference data (plus OCS's messages) will be displayed in the chosen language.

The whole translation work is based in GNU's gettext framework, so translating OCS's messages into other languages is a little bit different from the approach used in OJS.

We provide Spanish (Spain) and Basque translations in the docs/ subdirectory.

There is a README.MULTIPLE-LANGUAGES file in docs/ subdirectory that lists the the steps you have to follow to get your multi-language site up and running.

The database structure has changed, and the new structure is incompatible with the standard one. So upgrading from an already installed standard version is not supported.

By the way, we have fixed several of the bugs found in the project's Bugzilla and added several corrections that have been posted to this forum (you can find the details in README.MULTIPLE-LANGUAGES).

Thank you for multilingual version of OCS. But not all content is possible to use in second language. There are no possibility to input addresses, sponsors, names, sessions, rooms etc. in other language. How to do that?

Also conference name in all messages (call for papers, to authors and reviewers) is provided in one language.

FYI, the Public Knowledge Project is beginning development of a new release of OCS based on the OJS 2.x codebase. This will include much improved localization support.

I have tried to install this version of OCS to have the locale in Spanish, but after installation I get this error:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function bindtextdomain() in C:\www\ocs\include\common.inc.php on line 160

I have php version 5.1.2, is there a equivalent function?.

This function is part of the gettext library; see http://ca3.php.net/manual/en/ref.gettext.php for information. These functions are available as a module.
