Problem with Greek translation

Postby chasan » Sat May 15, 2010 5:02 pm

Hi,

I have followed all the necessary steps in order to add the Greek Language on Harvester.
I have added the folders el_GR to all necessary "locale" directories and made the changes at locales.xml.

I am facing some problems... for example :

##admin.siteManagement##

* » ##admin.siteSettings##
* » ##admin.layout##
* » Γλώσσες
* » ##admin.plugins##
* » ##admin.rtAdmin##
* » ##admin.sortOrders##
* » Crosswalks

##admin.archives##

* » ##admin.archives.addArchive##
* » ##admin.archives.manageArchives##

##admin.users##

* » ##admin.people.allUsers##
* » ##admin.people.createUser##
* » ##user.role.submitters##

##admin.adminFunctions##

* » ##admin.systemInformation##
* » ##admin.expireSessions##
* » ##admin.clearDataCache##
* » ##admin.clearTemplateCache##

The menu above is what appears in SITE ADMINISTRATION.
The similar problem appears in several pages of the menu.

I really need your help to solve that because I cannot locate the appropriate folder that needs changes...

Thank you.

Hi Chasan,

Which version of the Harvester are you using? In newer versions of the Harvester (ie., 2.3+), some locale files are stored in lib/pkp/locale/. If that's the version you are using, let me know and I can send you a set of files to use.

Cheers,
James

Hi chasan,

Try decompressing the attached file, and adding all included XML files to lib/pkp/locale/el_GR. Let me know if that solves the problem. If it doesn't, please also include a link to the Harvester instance, if possible.

Cheers,
James

Unfortunately the problem is not solved...

Here is the link : https://vivliothmmy.ee.auth.gr/chasan_p ... .php/index

If you browse a little (Greek language) you will see some fields that are not shown properly... For example ##about.harvester## etc ...
I have a deadline for fixing that problem and I really appreciate your help.

Thank you.

Hi Chasan,

Would you be able to send me the new locale files you have created? I'll try and get them working on my local machine, which will be the fastest way to troubleshoot this. You can email them directly to jmacgreg @ gmail dot com.

James

Hi Chasan,

The encoding in your file locale/el_GR/locale.xml seems to be the problem -- the encoding is incorrect or corrupt, and the file probably can't be read or used by the server. How did you go about creating or translating that file? Is there any way you can save the file as UTF-8 encoded?

Cheers,
James

I think that you are right.
I have just opened it with PSPad and save it instead of ANSI to UTF-8.
Now I just have to change the "weird" characters to Greek :)
Thank you for your immediate response and I hope that this was the last problem with the greek translation :? :D

Suddenly out of the blue the problem appeared again...
I really do not know the reason. I have downloaded the file form the server and as I mentioned I have saved it to UTF8.
I redownloaded know the file after the problem and the file does not appear to have any prob at all... it is UTF8.
What a puzzle... :x

Hi Chasan,

Are you still having problems with this? If you could tell me exactly which encoding the file was originally encoded in, I *may* be able to help.

James

As I mentioned above it was encoded in ANSI.
Do you mean something else instead of this?

Hi Chasan,

ANSI doesn't actually give me much to go with -- see http://superuser.com/questions/28555/co ... is-failing. You may be able to convert using another program on Windows.
