Which OAI harvester and which URL to use

Postby drjhf » Tue Feb 28, 2006 8:29 am

Is there either harm or benefit to registering a journal in both the SFU harvester and OAIster?

Also, if one is using name-based virtual hosting for a journal, is it better to list just the actual journal URL (http://scholarlyexchange.org/ojs/index.php/BIORES/ for the site URL and http://scholarlyexchange.org/ojs/index.php/BIORES/oai/ for the base URL for OAI archive - or the name-based virtual-hosted one, in this case http://www.bioresourcesjournal.com, without any folder names as they do not appear in the address line?

thanks

Hi drjhf,

There's no harm in registering for multiple harvesters.

It's probably better to use the virtual-hosted journal for the site URL. http://www.bioresourcesjournal.com is the "definitive" url to your journal, and therefore the preferred method of reaching it via an outside service such as the harvester.

Hi David,

Are you giving the harvester the correct OAI URL? It should be: http://24.161.80.157/mhr/ojs2/index.php/japa/oai
