.htaccess Directory

Postby rke4me » Sun Apr 05, 2009 10:23 pm

Hi OJS,

"Create a directory to store uploaded files (submission files, etc.) and make this directory writeable. It is recommended that this directory be placed in a non-web-accessible location (or otherwise protected from direct access, such as via .htaccess rules)."

To install OJS on remote server the above given step is very important specially for them who are not aware about ".htaccess rules" e.g. for Godaddy.com OJS user. On the basis my experience I would like to suggest as:

1. There is possibility to include a Optional Command to Create a ".htaccess rules directory" in the OJS Setup System ( or config.inc.php) in next OJS version.

OR

2. Give a Step-wise intructions as a HELP FILE "How to create .htaccess rules directory" on remote server" (e.g. on remote server Godaddy.com, one need to create .htaccess rules directory).

This will be extermly helpful to the new OJS users.

Hi Rke,

Thanks for this -- I don't think we'll allow for the setup of an .htaccess file during installation, as this could interfere with possible already-existing .htaccess files; but I will definitely update the documentation to give a more coherent understanding on when to use them or not.

Thanks,
James

Is there a solution for it?
A place where we can get help and information about writing and saving the correct .htaccess in a correct place to avoid the direct access?
I searched in documentation but I couldn't find this update.
Thank you!
