Feature request: HTML email templates

Postby mgregson » Wed Nov 14, 2012 7:11 pm

One of my clients has asked about sending HTML emails. I envisage this working something like this:
  • Add a 'Is HTML?' checkbox to email templates which enables the TinyMCE editor for that template.
  • Make necessary change to email sending code so that email templates with the HTML option checked are sent as text/html
More advanced features might include automatic link tracking and an online version of the email as a fallback.

A complementary feature would be a user email address export plugin. This could function similarly to the existing user XML export but would output a plain text list of email addresses that can be easily copy-and-pasted into an email application.

Cheers

Hi,

Yes, we are also wanting to send HTML emails. We're on version 2.4.2 is this possible? I can't see any relevant settings.

Specifically we're wanting to make it easier for reviewers to accept or decline a review. To avoid having them log into the system to respond, one of our editors is wanting to include this code in the email request:

Code: Select all
<a href="mailto:editorl@example.com?subject=Decline review request">Decline</a>

Any tips or workarounds would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Suzy

Hi Suzy,

The current releases of OJS don't support HTML emails without considerable modification; see e.g. http://pkp.sfu.ca/support/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=11415&p=43902&hilit=html+email#p43902 for the latest on that subject. Have you looked at reviewer access keys? These, when enabled in journal setup, allow reviewers to follow links sent to them in emails that bypass the login process entirely (since reviewers often forget their credentials).

Hi Alec,

Thanks for the link; though I think we'll be avoiding that considerable modification! We have turned on "One-click reviewer access" in Journal Setup > Policies > 2.2 Peer Review. Is that what you are referring to? I guess it's not entirely obvious how important accepting the review is (to the journal manager)....in spite of what the email template says!

Thanks again,
Suzy

Hi Suzy,

Yes, that's the setting I meant. Now reviewers will receive URLs into the system that will bypass the login screen entirely.
