OJS 2.4.0 Released

The PKP Development Team is pleased to announce the release of OJS 2.4.0.

OJS 2.4.0 is a development release, and includes many new features. These features include (but are not limited to):

* New translations (including Indonesian and Malayalam), and improvements to existing translations;
* New PDF view plugins;
* Lucene search functionality;
* Improved journal and site browsing options;
* Improved Public Identifier (URN, CrossRef) support;
* Finer-grained article view statistics;
* ... and more.

Please note that some translations that were complete in previous releases are not fully updated for 2.4.0. These include French and Spanish. We intend to make complete versions of these translations available as soon as they are complete.

This release of OJS drops compatibility for PHP 4.x. PHP 5.0 or newer will now be required for future releases.

Hello,
i searched the Issue-Lists but didnt came to a conclusion, so i would like to ask if Version 2.4.x is (more or less) ready for Production or if are there some MAJOR drawbacks (missing Functions, Security-Issues, ...) using this Version.

Hi Chris,

We haven't flagged 2.4.1 as "stable" because it was missing some translations we consider quite important (e.g. Spanish and French). We're about to release OJS 2.4.2 (within a week) and expect to flag that as stable about a week after that. Unless you're really eager to upgrade, wait for 2.4.2 just so save yourself the trouble of upgrading again; if you want to get started with a fresh install and don't want to wait a week, use OJS 2.4.1. For any release, I'd also suggest watching the Recommended Patches page (http://pkp.sfu.ca/wiki/index.php/OJS_Re ... ed_Patches).
