Review Form Enhancement

Postby samkalb » Fri Feb 06, 2009 8:50 am

One of my journal publishers has an enhancement request.

"I created a custom Review form for our reviewers to use. This review form asks reviewers to grade their
assigned paper on a scale of 1 to 5 for different criteria. I was hoping I could set up something so that as the reviewers clicked (or entered) the grades for the different criteria, the total "score" of the review was automatically totalled up and displayed in another field. I don't seem to be able to do something like that using the available review form tools. But is there a way I could do that? Perhaps by modifying the source code for the review form?"

Hi Sam,

That looks like a job for javascript, and will take some leg work to get going. I would modify the header template to selectively include a javascript file depending on what page you are on (i.e. review form pages), or if you're lazy, just add a function to the js/general.js file. The JS function could then listen for keystroke/click events in the form elements, add up the values, and stick the sum in the total field (which would be an actual form element submitted to the editor). If you're familiar at all with jQuery, which if you are would allow you to do this much more easily, there is a top secret jQuery plugin for the next release of OJS that I could send your way (no warranty included).

Cheers,
Matt

Hi there

I would be interested in the same enhancement. Has anyone already implemented it so that I would not have to invent the wheel again.

Thank you Bjørn
