There are cases where the current issue abstraction is not meaningful, such as an implementation of an archive of a defunct print journal, or an implementation of an online analog of a print journal where issues do not appear until some time after they have appeared in print. In this latter case the most current issue of the online implementation is never the current issue of the (print) journal. Admin facilities to delete appearance of the CURRENT choice (or to completely specify navigation menu choices) would be useful in such cases.
