Forum rules
What to do if you have a technical problem with OJS:

1. Search the forum. You can do this from the Advanced Search Page or from our Google Custom Search, which will search the entire PKP site. If you are encountering an error, we especially recommend searching the forum for said error.

2. Check the FAQ to see if your question or error has already been resolved.

3. Post a question, but please, only after trying the above two solutions. If it's a workflow or usability question you should probably post to the OJS Editorial Support and Discussion subforum; if you have a development question, try the OJS Development subforum.

Any other hosting platforms that you have had success with? This is lunacy trying to get this to run. The windows install that we did worked just fine first pass. Our only reason for moving was to be able to patch this to 2.4.1 and beyond. I am at a loss as to what to do now.

Hi Rich,

Unfortunately you'll have to figure this out with your hosting provider. It's a pretty unusual option to have enabled (I've never seen it enabled on a shared host) and it removes some pretty major flexibility from OJS's purview. If there's a specific application that needs it, you ought to be able to enable it locally there; alternately, it ought to be possible to use a .htaccess file to disable it specifically for the path OJS appears in. However, the details will depend on your host's server configuration.

Hi Alec.

We have an update. After much consultation with the hosting provider, we have somehow turned auto.session_start=0 or OFF.

We however still have the cookie problem! They suggested that we turn off cookies..but after reading the OJS documentation, that is not a preferrable way to handle this issue. So, is it possible that there is a permissions problem on the server that does not let the code modify cookies? Is there a default listing of permissions required over and above what is in the user guides for OJS? I mean short of chmod a=rwx everything in the ojs-2.4.1 folder, there has to be a permissions document around somewhere. How about a ls -l listing of a stable installation that we can follow?

Thank you!

Hi Rich,

Looking at your "Extended PHP Information" page, session.auto_start still shows as "On" locally.

OK...here is the "final" update on this problem!

For all of you out there trying to run GD VPS hosting, you need to disable APC version 3.1.9 in the /etc/php.d/apc.ini file. Modify the setting apc.enabled=0,
then restart the apache server with service httpd restart

This solves our login looping problem in our hosting environment.

I would like to thank Alec for all his help in tracking it down. They don't pay you enough!

Hi,

I installed OJS.

I'm having the same problem: "Login loop".

My OJS login page is

http://www.tujest.com/ojs/index.php/index/login

I dont know the create a .htaccess file and what should I write in it?

I would be glad if you could help.
