What to do if you have a technical problem with OJS:

1. Search the forum. You can do this from the Advanced Search Page or from our Google Custom Search, which will search the entire PKP site. If you are encountering an error, we especially recommend searching the forum for said error.

2. Check the FAQ to see if your question or error has already been resolved.

3. Post a question, but please, only after trying the above two solutions. If it's a workflow or usability question you should probably post to the OJS Editorial Support and Discussion subforum; if you have a development question, try the OJS Development subforum.

upgrading issues

Postby tkalfaoglu » Wed Feb 27, 2013 11:01 am

Hi there. I am trying to update,and the upgrade tool shows:
Code version: 2.2.3.0
Database version: 2.2.3.0
Latest version: 2.4.1.0

I start the upgrade process..

After dozens of " Deprecated: Function set_magic_quotes_runtime() is deprecated in ..."
messages,I finally get:
ERROR: Upgrade failed: DB: Duplicate entry 'ba\009Flı' for key 'article_search_keyword_text'

Using phpmyadmin, I exported and looked at the database and there are hundreds of keywords that contain strange characters (either Turkish or Arabic I'm guessing), but also english keywords that look normal.
I was afraid to delete keywords, as I believe there is another table that uses their ID number..
Any ideas how I should fix this so I can upgrade?

Update: I searched and replaced many letters that I recognised. For example, I did a search and replace of every "\009" for "ç" or whatever.

However, it now complains about regular keywords, such as: "duplicate entry 'students' for key..." Wasn't there a unique requirement in the previous version of OJS? How could duplicates happen in this table, and get rejected when it tries to upgrade?

Thanks!

Hi tkalfaoglu,

I'd suggest:
  • Revert your database to its state before you started the upgrade script
  • Run the following SQL queries:
    Code: Select all
    DELETE FROM article_search_keyword_list;
    DELETE FROM article_search_object_keywords;
    DELETE FROM article_search_objects;
  • Try the upgrade again
  • Re-generate the search index by running tools/rebuildSearchIndex.php

Hi there. I'm trying to enclose my transcript of my update attempt. I hope it accepts it as a zip file.
The upgrade script has been stuck for an hour now. What shall I do?

I spoke too soon: It now just outputted a few more lines:

Hi tkalfaoglu,

If you have an enormous number of users (along with their reviewing interests), those functions may well take a long time. It's likely that spammers have been auto-registering for your journal in the hopes that it'll help with their SEO (it won't). I'd suggest checking your users table for volume and considering enabling CAPTCHA testing for registration. Did the upgrade complete, and if not, do you have a full error log?

Thank you very much - the migration never completed, giving many patch errors, so I finally downloaded the entire set and replaced it altogether. Its working well now.. thank you..
