What to do if you have a technical problem with OJS:
1. Search the forum

to see if your question or error has already been resolved.

I tried to merge some spam users into my admin account yesterday (OJS 2.4.1). It failed with the following message: DB Error: Table 'd15353.gifts' doesn't exist

Yes, this is a bug -- the gifts table is not installed in the upgrade to 2.4.1. There is a patch available to fix this, here:http://pkp.sfu.ca/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=7964
You should be able to install the patch and run the upgrade again, or else just create the table yourself. The merge users problem should solve itself then.
