What to do if you have a technical problem with OJS:
1. Search the forum

to see if your question or error has already been resolved.
3. Post a question

does anyone have an idea what the fake accounts the FAQ is talking about are created for? Why would someone do that over and over again? Or why would someone program a worm that does it?
Has anyone investigated this?

At a guess: spammers probably aren't selective about where they try to put content; they identify forms, instruct auto-submitter tools in how to submit to them, and press "go". There is no particular benefit to abusing OJS this way (short of e.g. actually publishing spam content, which would require a complicit editor) but they don't stick around long enough to verify that.
