What to do if you have a technical problem with OJS:

1. Search the forum. You can do this from the Advanced Search Page or from our Google Custom Search, which will search the entire PKP site. If you are encountering an error, we especially recommend searching the forum for said error.

2. Check the FAQ to see if your question or error has already been resolved.

3. Post a question, but please, only after trying the above two solutions. If it's a workflow or usability question you should probably post to the OJS Editorial Support and Discussion subforum; if you have a development question, try the OJS Development subforum.

Submition process, add feature "choose editor"

Postby fonzman » Mon Aug 08, 2011 5:04 am

I am currently setting up an OJS installation for a small journal. For ease of use, the users want an additional feature for any author to select the editor in the submittion process. Therefore an additional section would be needed in step 3 of the submittion process, "enter metadata".

Is it possible to add a section "Choose editor", which shows the list of editors, and gives the author the possibility to decide for one himself? That would mean, after completing the submition process the function "assignEditor?articleId=??&editorId=??" should be called, with the articleID of the new submition and the the editorID of the chosen editor. How hard is it to achive that?

Sorry, if this belongs to the Development subsection, please move it there!
Thank you.

Hi fonzman,

My apologies for the extreme delay in responding -- your post was trapped in a moderation queue we don't generally use.

If you're still interested in developing this feature -- do you have PHP expertise on-hand? If so, I can make a few general suggestions about where to start.
