PHP Upgrade PKP Problems

Postby bar338 » Fri Aug 21, 2009 11:10 am

PHP was just upgraded to 5.3 on my server and its causing a lot of problems with pkp. one thing at a time though. I'm getting this error and i'm not sure what it means:

PHP Warning: get_class() expects parameter 1 to be object, integer given in /home/www/public_html/pkp/classes/cache/GenericCache.inc.php on line 63

I get this error alot and another one that is the same except it says boolean instead of integer. What is causing this and how can it be fixed?

Another big error, after updating to 5.3 my side columns simply do not show up. This is a really strange error and i can't seem to find the source. Any probable sources of the error?

Thanks.

Hi bar338,

Regarding the first issue, see viewtopic.php?f=4&t=4184 -- the warning is harmless, and you should be able to suppress it/them.

Regarding the second sidebar issue: have you checked in Journal Setup Step 5 to see whether the blocks have, for some reason, moved back into the centre? If not, let us know.

Cheers,
James

I don't think it has anything to do with the admin configuration. Whenever i revert back to an old php version the navigation returns and when i go back to php 5.3 it disappears.

Any suggestions on this? I've looked at the code that is in the templates and shows where the side bar is displayed and i've also looked at the individual blocks. Where are the blocks assembled into a series to be displayed?

Hi bar338,

You may be encountering something unusual to do with a change e.g. in PHP serialization formats. I'd suggest deleting all .php files from the cache/ directory, then going to Journal Setup step 5, verifying the settings there, then saving the page. If that doesn't help, let me know and I'll look into it further.

I've actually decided to move back to php 5.2. 5.3 was just causing too many problems with pkp and one other application we use.

Hi bar338,

Just a quick note to say I've hit this problem as well. I've posted a bug report here: http://pkp.sfu.ca/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=4775. Please feel free to CC yourself for future updates.
