What to do if you have a technical problem with OJS:

1. Search the forum. You can do this from the Advanced Search Page or from our Google Custom Search, which will search the entire PKP site. If you are encountering an error, we especially recommend searching the forum for said error.

2. Check the FAQ to see if your question or error has already been resolved.

3. Post a question, but please, only after trying the above two solutions. If it's a workflow or usability question you should probably post to the OJS Editorial Support and Discussion subforum; if you have a development question, try the OJS Development subforum.

Can't send out emails

Postby ItsDan » Tue Feb 26, 2008 11:15 am

I can go to prepared emails and send from that section, although the in-message codes aren't interpreted, but I assume it's because of the screen I'm sending it from. The problem is that if I go to enrolled users, select some, hit Send Email, and send a message, no one receives anything. Obviously its capable of sending mail or I would receive nothing from the other screen. I'm fairly PHP knowledgable, how can I go about diagnosing this?

I do get prepared emails at times such as signups as well. Just not when I manually try to send one.

So I opened up the Mail.inc.php file and added a test email, it appears if I remove $headers then it goes through. It also goes through if I replace headers with a "From: ouremail@ourdomain.com\n" header. These are the headers it attempts to send:

Content-Type: text/plain; charset="utf-8"
X-Mailer: Open Journal Systems v2
Date: Tue, 26 Feb 2008 12:58:10 -0600
From: "our name" <ourname@ourdomain.com>
Bcc: something@domain.com

Hi ItsDan,

Sounds to me like your mail server is rejecting the messages -- can you check your mail server logs to see if there is anything there to explain why? If you don't have access to the logs, you may have to narrow down the headers one at a time until you identify the header that's causing the message to be rejected. I'd suggest double-checking the mail configuration in your config.inc.php file to make sure that it's appropriate for your network.
