What to do if you have a technical problem with OJS:

1. Search the forum. You can do this from the Advanced Search Page or from our Google Custom Search, which will search the entire PKP site. If you are encountering an error, we especially recommend searching the forum for said error.

2. Check the FAQ to see if your question or error has already been resolved.

3. Post a question, but please, only after trying the above two solutions. If it's a workflow or usability question you should probably post to the OJS Editorial Support and Discussion subforum; if you have a development question, try the OJS Development subforum.

how to add image to "Additional Content" field?

Postby tomjan » Thu Feb 21, 2008 8:58 am

hello group
I have searched forum with "add image" keywords and did not find any helpful hits so I'm here with my question:
How to add image to "Additional Content" field in Step 5. (Customizing the Look part of Journal setup)???

I have tried with editing html code of this field and adding <img src=images/myfile.jpg> (after I have created images directory and downloaded myfile.jpg into it)
but it doesn't work! images/myfile.jpg is translated into <img src="../../../../../../%7Ejach/ojs-2.2/index.php/jach/manager/setup/images/myfile.jpg">

so, could You tell me how the recipe for adding image to content of main page looks like?

thank You for reply,

tj

Hi Tomjan,

I would advise taking a look at the following bug report:

http://pkp.sfu.ca/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3186

In some instances, TinyMCE will garble url inputs, adding '../../' etc. Try applying the patch, and get back to me if you're still having difficulty.

You may also want to have a stronger URL to point to your images:

Code: Select all
<img src="/path-to-ojs/images/image.jpg">

instead of

Code: Select all
<img src="images/image.jpg">

Cheers,
James

Thank jmacgreg for reply,

yes I still have difficulty. Why? Because I meet problems with login system.
After I "log in" as journal manager than choose setup -> The Look -> and than modify fields "Additional Content", "Alternate Header", Journal Page Footer , For Readers, For Authors,"For Librarians" OR EVEN don't modify anything I'm logged out from the system when I click button "save and continue". I have tested all options from manager panel ( Files BrowserJournal Sections,Languages,Masthead,Prepared Emails,Reading Tools,Setup,Stats & Reports,Payments,System Plugins,Import/Export Data,Create New User) and I see that problems is only in setup -> "the look" option...
Additionaly when system logout clean all information in fields "Additional Content", "Alternate Header", Journal Page Footer , For Readers, For Authors,"For Librarians" so after next login I see that all information in this fields are lost.

tj

ps. I hope that my English is sufficient to explain what the problem is...

Hi tomjan,

Just a couple of quick questions:

Which version of OJS are you running?

Are you encountering this behaviour only *after* you applied the patch, or before? Have you applied the patch already?

Have you tried clearing your OJS template and data caches? You can do that from the Site Administrator home page; there are links under Administrative Functions.

Thanks,
James

Hello jmacgreg,

>Which version of OJS are you running?

2.2

>Are you encountering this behaviour only *after* you applied the patch, or before? Have you applied the patch already?

before and after. I think (but i'm not sure - please don't blame me if You lost time looking for in wrong place...) that problem have started when I edited the html source code of "Additional Content" field when I wanted to add "img" html tag.

>Have you tried clearing your OJS template and data caches?

I have cleared template and data caches. The problem is still occurring

tj

hymmm, I see that after this force logout system some times doesn't clean form fields in "The look" section of setup. when I enter the web page end look at the html code I can see such strange things: after quote sign (") I can see additional semicolons signs ";; signs (I suppose that durinng edition " is translated into &quot; and system has problems with ;. additionally I see in html that few > signs are /> for example <br />. the /> I see for td meta and link tags also.

Hi tomjan,

Odd -- I've never seen this sort of problem when saving step 5. What web server are you using (e.g. IIS or Apache)? What settings do you have in php.ini for magic_quotes_runtime, magic_quotes_gpc, and magic_quotes_sybase?

What browser are you using, and can you try another (e.g. Firefox instead of IE or Opera)?

Hi tomjan,

Thanks for the info. Your phpinfo looks OK -- but we're not able to duplicate either problem: the log out on save, or the semicolons appearing in content. Two more things to try:

1. Try disabling session_check_ip in config.inc.php to see if it corrects the log out issue.
2. Try disabling the TinyMCE plugin in the Journal Manager's "System Plugins". This will make the setup fields non-WYSIWIG, but may prevent semicolons from appearing as well; this would help narrow down the problem. (If you're still unable to save setup step 5, you can try placing quotes somewhere in another setup field to test.)

Hi tomjan,

Would you be willing to grant me temporary server access so that I can investigate further? Please contact us at pkp-support@sfu.ca or PM me on this forum.

Were you able to check whether the semicolons are appearing as a result of the TinyMCE plugin?

Hi Alec,

>Would you be willing to grant me temporary server access so that I can investigate further?

unfortunetly the serwer I test ojs is staying behind 10 firewals... (grant You temporary server access is possible but extremly sophisticated.)

But I can send to You:
1.mysql dump
2. php.ini
3.httpd.conf
4.config.inc.php (or even all ojs files)
5.and what ever You need to replicate logout ojs behavior.

How do You think? will it be supportive?

>Were you able to check whether the semicolons are appearing as a result of the TinyMCE plugin?

Sorry, I was so busy I couldn't find time for it. I describe the result asap.

Hi tomjan,

Hmm, I don't think that would help -- I suspect it's a platform issue, as I haven't been able to duplicate it locally and no combination of configuration options should cause step 5 to log out like that. Have you checked your server log files (Apache log, syslog)?
