What to do if you have a technical problem with OJS:

1. Search the forum. You can do this from the Advanced Search Page or from our Google Custom Search, which will search the entire PKP site. If you are encountering an error, we especially recommend searching the forum for said error.

2. Check the FAQ to see if your question or error has already been resolved.

3. Post a question, but please, only after trying the above two solutions. If it's a workflow or usability question you should probably post to the OJS Editorial Support and Discussion subforum; if you have a development question, try the OJS Development subforum.

Error in importing file

Postby sarangi » Mon Dec 17, 2007 10:19 am

I'm trying to import article using Import xml plugin. Here is the snippet of xml file

<galley>
<label>text</label>
<file>
<href mime_type="application/pdf" src="https://someurl/528.pdf"></href>
</file>
</galley>

However, I get this error message and the file is not imported
A specified URL "https://somerul/528.pdf" could not be copied to a local file.

What could be the cause for this error?

PS: someurl is actually replaced by a valid url in my xml file.

Hi Sarangi,

This one is a little bit more tricky. Do you have writeable access to your server's php.ini file? I suspect that the php.ini variable "allow_url_fopen" is set to Off. If you can change that to On and give the import a try, let me know.

You can view a more detailed breakdown of what may be happening here:

viewtopic.php?f=8&t=731&p=2298&hilit=+specified+url#p2298

and here:

viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2318&hilit=allow_url_fopen

Cheers,
James
