I resigned myself to hire someone to help me with the installation and after many hours of this, that and the other thing, we got this error:
DB Error: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/usr/local/mysql-5.0/data/mysql.sock' (2)
After talking with the folks at godaddy.com ... they mentioned that the hosting plan that I have (shared hosting) blocks "those types of installations" and I would have to have a dedicated or virtual hosting account in order to install ojs and its components. Is this something that you have ever heard of? Is this common?
The person that helped me installed it on his server, no problem ... and we both thought that it would be easy to do the installation.
If anyone knows anything about this ... I'd appreciate any feedback.

This sounds to me like a misconfiguration of the database server hostname in the configuration file; are you sure it matches what Godaddy requires?
