What to do if you have a technical problem with OJS:

1. Search the forum. You can do this from the Advanced Search Page or from our Google Custom Search, which will search the entire PKP site. If you are encountering an error, we especially recommend searching the forum for said error.

2. Check the FAQ to see if your question or error has already been resolved.

3. Post a question, but please, only after trying the above two solutions. If it's a workflow or usability question you should probably post to the OJS Editorial Support and Discussion subforum; if you have a development question, try the OJS Development subforum.

Access to one article only?

Our journals are subscriber-only for 2 yrs. However, we also give access to the authors(s) and referee(s) to the article they were involved in. Is this possible under OJS?

Hi Owen,

Authors can always view articles they've published by logging in as Author and going to "Archive"; they can view the published versions on the submission's Editing page. To add access to the entire issue for Authors or Reviewers, you'd need to modify classes/issue/IssueAction.inc.php; look at the subscriptionRequired function. You'd need to go through the articles published in that issue, check whether or not the current user reviewed or authored any of those articles, and if so, return false from that function to override the access settings.

The most maintainable way to do this would be to write a small plugin that registers against the "IssueAction::subscriptionRequired" hook. This would not require any modification of OJS code, and therefore would not cause problems when it came time to upgrade.

Thanks! It looks as though Authors are sorted, but not Reviewers. We're not extending free access to authors and reviewers for the whole issue, just the paper they were involved in.

Hi Owen,

Reviewers also have access to the reviews they've completed via their Archive, but that doesn't include the finished article; it only includes the review version (from which author information has been removed) and Reviewer/Editor correspondence. If you'd like to add access to the published article, it should be a reasonably straight-forward addition to that interface.
