What to do if you have a technical problem with OJS:

1. Search the forum. You can do this from the Advanced Search Page or from our Google Custom Search, which will search the entire PKP site. If you are encountering an error, we especially recommend searching the forum for said error.

2. Check the FAQ to see if your question or error has already been resolved.

3. Post a question, but please, only after trying the above two solutions. If it's a workflow or usability question you should probably post to the OJS Editorial Support and Discussion subforum; if you have a development question, try the OJS Development subforum.

Hi all,

Today I fellow passes me this url and asked about permalinks (in general, as well as based on this service): http://www.permalinks.cc/

My answer? In OJS a service like this won't be useful as far as every article owns a unique and permanent url... to reach the PDF, HTML o whatever version of the article you need... although it article changes in future.
But in confidence, I didn't feel sure about this answer and I don't know if I'm missing any benefit of playing with a service like the one I posted.

The only scenario I can imagine this service could be useful it's in a case you migrate from OJS to a different e-Magazine system... but it's a partial benefit, as far as you are moving your dependency from your OJS' url to an external (uncontrolled) service.

Am I missing something? Could OJS take advantage of a service like permalinks.cc?

I just hope I explained myself. :-)

Thanks for your help,

Hi mbria,

I think permalinks are mostly useful for static pages, and one of our focuses with PKP software is permanence of information, meaning that we're not going to break backwards compatibility of URLs in some future release. Permalinks should work fine with OJS -- there's just not much reason to use them.
