Forum rules
What to do if you have a technical problem with OJS:

1. Search the forum. You can do this from the Advanced Search Page or from our Google Custom Search, which will search the entire PKP site. If you are encountering an error, we especially recommend searching the forum for said error.

2. Check the FAQ to see if your question or error has already been resolved.

3. Post a question, but please, only after trying the above two solutions. If it's a workflow or usability question you should probably post to the OJS Editorial Support and Discussion subforum; if you have a development question, try the OJS Development subforum.

Speeding up OJS

Postby stabb » Thu Aug 16, 2007 10:41 pm

I know theres probably information I can get via the tech document but I thought id ask here first.

My site is now live as of yesterday although Im continuing to work on it. ( Not sure if this is good practice).

Ive been told that the OJS system is working very slowly. I know theres many variables to take into account, but is there a list of things I can do to improve this..?

Thanks and Regards

Hi James,

The speed of the site looks fine from here; do you have any more information?

Hi there Alec

Its possible that the assistant editor was accessing the site during a time of high traffic and blamed it on the site, but im not quite sure.
She said that it took a painful amount of time to load the latest issue.

Heres some things ive done to (possibly)help speed things up.

1. Ive been cleaning up the extra code in the templates that i added. I read somewhere that extra CRLF's and spaces can add to extra download times.

2. I disabled SSL login since they were complaining about the popup window. Does this sound wise? Also dont think I set up SSL properly as I hadnt registered the site. The SSL popup was quite tech-like so i think they were unsure what to do. SEE

And thats about it.

Hi James,

Disabling SSL logins shouldn't be a problem, although working around that dialog box should be fairly easy. You just need to check the page source to find out what's still being delivered via http (as opposed to https) and move it over to https. If you post about here I can provide specifics.
