A quick Q about emails - my name/email appears as
=?UTF-8?B?SmVuw6lhIFRhbGxlbnRpcmU=?= <arachne2@thirdspace.ca>
in both the 'from' tag on email templates and in the History. Help?

Hi arachne,

Try patching your installation with http://pkp.sfu.ca/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=2894; this should correct the problem.

Thanks - is there a way to do it without a patch? I don't know how to use them and I cannot get shell access.

Hi arachne,

The patch is easy to apply by hand. Simply edit classes/mail/MailTemplate.inc.php and change approx. line 265 from:
Code: Select all
$form->setData('from', $this->getFromString());
...to...
Code: Select all
$form->setData('from', $this->getFromString(false));

Hi - I applied the patch, but it has not helped the problem... additional help?
- it's apparently only my own email - the primary journal user account

cheers!

Hi Arachne,

Does your profile page display the correct information, i.e. glitch-free?

Hi Arachne,

OK, and if you try composing a new email, is it still affected? Or is it just the emails in the history list that are affected?

Looks like only in the history - when I go to compose one, it gives my name normally.

Hi Arachne,

OK, this should work fine henceforth now that the patch has been applied; if you want to correct the history, you'll need to do it manually via MySQL.

ok - so it will always show my emails as garble? Or will this be added to the I am sure huge list of stuff for the next release?

Hi Arachne,

The bug that the patch corrected resulted in some incorrect data in the database; now that the patch is in place, new data coming in will be correct, but the data that was garbled by the bug will still be in the database. We probably won't write anything to correct the old data, because it's not crucial to the system (i.e. it won't cause any misbehavior going forward) and we try to avoid retrospective correction of data unless it's necessary.

If you'd like to correct the history data that was created before the bug was fixed, I can provide some MySQL queries to use.

ok - I guess what I mean is, after the bug was fixed, it still records my emails as garble in the history. So every email I sent today is still messed up (patch was applied yesterday). So 'new data' is still not correctly recorded.

Don't mind the old ones, but it looks like a continuing problem even after the patch...
