What to do if you have a technical problem with OJS:

1. Search the forum. You can do this from the Advanced Search Page or from our Google Custom Search, which will search the entire PKP site. If you are encountering an error, we especially recommend searching the forum for said error.

2. Check the FAQ to see if your question or error has already been resolved.

3. Post a question, but please, only after trying the above two solutions. If it's a workflow or usability question you should probably post to the OJS Editorial Support and Discussion subforum; if you have a development question, try the OJS Development subforum.

HTTP 500 Internal server error

Postby sandyxpcn » Fri May 18, 2007 2:19 pm

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to make a OJS site.
I uploaded the files, created the database and installation went well. But when I try to open OJS pages, it says "HTTP 500 Internal server error". I've tried both 2.1 and 2.0, same error always happens.

I'm using hostmonster as webhost, all system requirements are satisfied and after installation it did say installation successfully completed.

Does anyone know what may have caused this problem and how it can be fixed? Thank you very much!

Hi sandyxpcn,

There's a bug in Zend Optimizer, which is used by many hosting companies; this sounds like it might be the cause of the problem you're having. See http://pkp.sfu.ca/support/forum/viewtopic.php?p=5517#5517 for details.

If that doesn't solve the problem, you may need to track down your server log to see if it contains any more details on the problem. A 500 error message is general-purpose and something more specific should be recorded elsewhere.
