What to do if you have a technical problem with OJS:

1. Search the forum. You can do this from the Advanced Search Page or from our Google Custom Search, which will search the entire PKP site. If you are encountering an error, we especially recommend searching the forum for said error.

2. Check the FAQ to see if your question or error has already been resolved.

3. Post a question, but please, only after trying the above two solutions. If it's a workflow or usability question you should probably post to the OJS Editorial Support and Discussion subforum; if you have a development question, try the OJS Development subforum.

supplemental link not working

Postby paulc » Thu May 17, 2007 11:08 am

Regarding the below reply to another question:
I had wanted to to use the short-cut link to submit an article and skip to the final editing step. It was not making a galley correctly and the "PDF" link was not working. Below, you gave me a patch to apply and that worked great!

Now I want to have a supplementary file with the article and it does the same thing. he article shows up but the supplementary has an incorrect link.

Is there a similar patch to fix the supplementary file ingest?

thanks,
Paul C

Hi Paulc,

There's a known issue with the "Expedite" feature (i.e. to skip all editing steps) in OJS 2.1.1; see viewtopic.php?t=1130 for a patch that will fix it.

As for the XML import feature, see the "Import/Export" tool as Journal Manager. The DTD in plugins/importexport/native/native.dtd supports both base64-encoded embedded files and files linked in using "href"; have a look at the DTD and if you have any questions you can ask them here.

Hi Paul,

Where is the supplementary file linked from, and what does the broken link look like?

When I hover over the supplementary file link it shows this:

...edu/web/ojs/index.php/first/article/view/2/7

but when I click on it it goes here to a blank screen:

...edu/web/ojs/index.php/first/article/download/2/7

Hi Paul,

On what page is this broken link appearing? Also, could you check your error logs to see if anything shows up? Generally a blank page indicates that an error has occurred, and you can usually find more details in the web server error log.

supplementary links not working

Postby paulc » Wed May 23, 2007 10:21 am

This is on the journal page:

----
working article (PDF) <link works
----
working article (PDF) (MP3) <-- non-working link
---- ^---- link works

it is the same issue that the fix for the editor short cut fixed only this time it is the supplementary file does not work on the galley page before you publish it.

Hi Paul,

Ah -- that explains the confusion. Unless I misunderstand, that's a galley, not a supplementary file; supplementary files are another feature entirely.

Did anything interesting turn up in your error?

No to the log error, I can't test it now and the logs from that day are gone.

I'm sorry if I am not explaining it correctly. I don't why a small section of the editors page is called a galley, but the problem begins inthat small section.

When, as an author, I upload an article AND a supplementary file and then click on the link to short cut to the editor page-- it shows the article in the galley area but it doesn't show the supplementary file, no filename, no filesize ( just a 'B')

if at that point I go ahead and publish, the article link works but the supplementary link does not.

Hi paulc,

Since you're dealing with an MP3 file, it might be worth checking to see whether it's too big for your PHP and webserver upload limits. See docs/FAQ:
2) Uploads of large files fail inexplicably.

A: This can be caused by certain Apache or PHP settings.

Apache 2.x has a LimitRequestBody directive that, if set to a low number, can lead to this behaviour. In particular, the default PHP packages for recent
versions of Red Hat Linux set LimitRequestBody to 524288 bytes in
/etc/httpd/conf.d/php.conf.

Low values for the PHP ini settings like post_max_size (default "8M"),
upload_max_filesize (default "8M"), and memory_limit (default "8M") can also
cause this problem.
You can check these limits in a phpinfo() output if you don't have access to the server's php.ini file.
