Forum rules
What to do if you have a technical problem with OJS:

1. Search the forum. You can do this from the Advanced Search Page or from our Google Custom Search, which will search the entire PKP site. If you are encountering an error, we especially recommend searching the forum for said error.

2. Check the FAQ to see if your question or error has already been resolved.

3. Post a question, but please, only after trying the above two solutions. If it's a workflow or usability question you should probably post to the OJS Editorial Support and Discussion subforum; if you have a development question, try the OJS Development subforum.

About public ID

Hi,

What exactly is "Public ID" referring to an article? I've searched is this forum but I haven't found any post about it.

Thanks a lot.

Hi Rafael,

The public article ID allows you to assign "keywords" to articles that can be used in URLs rather than the numeric system-generated ID. For example, if a URL to an article is http://myHost/ojs2/index.php/demo/article/view/572/41, you can use public IDs to change it to http://myHost/ojs2/index.php/demo/article/view/someCustomId/41. This is handy when using rewritten URLs in HTML galleys to hyperlink between articles. I expect we'll be using the same approach to allow galley fetching by label, so that you'll be able to use URLs like http://myHost/ojs2/index.php/demo/article/view/someCustomId/html.

This can also be useful for keeping track of a type of article identifier that OJS doesn't otherwise support.

Hi - can you remind me how to access this? It may be an alternative solution to my 'wanting to change the article URLs' problem.

cheers,

Hi Jenea,

You can access to modify article's public ID following the next steps:

1. As a Journal EDITOR pick "Issues > Back Issues"
2. Selecting an Issue, you'll see the articles included into that issue
3. Add as you want the public ID in each article.

(sorry for my language)

Hi all,

Thanks, Rafael -- only one note to add. The custom identifiers need to be enabled on Journal Setup, step 4, or the field won't appear.
