Debugging Email delivery - Using OJS on SourceForge.

Hi everybody,

we are trying to use OJS to produce our quartly Open Source Chemoinformatics Toolkit Newsletter "The CDK News". Since the topic of this newsletter is hosted on SourceForge, I installed OJS on our SourceForge web space, where we have both PHP as well as MySQL available.
All worked fine, exept the delivery of mails from the system, which is disabled by the SF staff to prevent mass mailings.
I've tried using SMTP delivery but could not get it to work, due to a total lack of feedback other than "Ok, the email did not arrive"
Is there a way to enable logging of debug messages in OJS?
Or better, has someone already tried using OJS on SourceForge?

Hi Chris,

Unfortunately, OJS won't give you much feedback beyond PHP error messages in an error situation when sending emails, but here are a few things to try:

• Make sure PHP errors are being displayed by adding the following line near the top of index.php:

  Code: Select all

  ini_set('display_errors', E_ALL);

• Try removing the @ from the calls to fsockopen, fwrite, and fgets in classes/mail/SMTPMailer.inc.php; this might result in error messages being displayed where they were previously suppressed
• If all else fails, you'll need to step through classes/mail/SMTPMailer.inc.php to find out where the message sending is failing.
