What to do if you have a technical problem with OJS:

1. Search the forum. You can do this from the Advanced Search Page or from our Google Custom Search, which will search the entire PKP site. If you are encountering an error, we especially recommend searching the forum for said error.

2. Check the FAQ to see if your question or error has already been resolved.

3. Post a question, but please, only after trying the above two solutions. If it's a workflow or usability question you should probably post to the OJS Editorial Support and Discussion subforum; if you have a development question, try the OJS Development subforum.

How can readers add roles of author/reviewer?

OK, maybe I'm being dense.

My set-up allows users to register as readers, authors and reviewers.

If they register as readers only, how can they themselves later add roles as authors and/or reviewers?

Hi Kenkle,

Existing users can register for additional roles (if enabled) as follows:
  • Log out if currently logged in.
  • Click on "Register" on the top menu
  • Follow the "Click here if you are already registered with this or another journal on this site" link
  • Enter your username and password and select an additional role to register under.
Alternately, the Journal Manager can enroll any user for any role under the "People" heading in Journal Management.

Does nto work for me

Postby rseidman » Fri Jan 19, 2007 7:12 am

I run only one journal under OJS.
I got a new email account to try this out. I registered as a reviewer. Then, I followed your directions: logged out. REGISTER. "Click here if you are already registered with this or another journal on this site" Then I filled in same info as when I registered as a Reviewer. Then, I checked the Author box. But, system would not let me register for author - it said username and email already in existance.

Also, I can't find People under Journal Management.

I am using latest version of OJS. Would appreciate your take on this.

I want to be able to have users registered as reviewers be able to register as authors later on and still be reviewers. I would also like to be able to, as Journal Manager, register people as both authors and reviewers but system seems to only let me do this one at a time and then rejects second one as already in the system.

Thanks. Bob

Hi Bob,

The next release will include a set of checkboxes where users can pick their roles as part of their Profile page. In the meantime, I'm not sure why you were unable to register for additional roles using the "Click here if you are already registered..." link; did the form you filled out include the full user details, or just the username and password?

To enroll users as Journal Manager:
  • Log in as Journal Manager
  • Click on "Journal Management"
  • Under "Roles", chose the role you want to enroll a user in
  • At the bottom of the page, click "Enroll an Existing User"
  • Use the search form or browse to find the user's account
  • On the right-hand side of the user's listing, click "Enroll User"
