What to do if you have a technical problem with OJS:

1. Search the forum. You can do this from the Advanced Search Page or from our Google Custom Search, which will search the entire PKP site. If you are encountering an error, we especially recommend searching the forum for said error.

2. Check the FAQ to see if your question or error has already been resolved.

3. Post a question, but please, only after trying the above two solutions. If it's a workflow or usability question you should probably post to the OJS Editorial Support and Discussion subforum; if you have a development question, try the OJS Development subforum.

Copyediting problem: DB Error

Postby Dan » Wed Apr 30, 2014 7:46 am

Hi, I'm the journal manager for a site that uses OJS, and we suddenly had a problem with uploading corrected manuscripts during copyediting. Whenever somebody (editor, author, whoever) tries to upload a complete file for step 2, "author copyedit," we get the following error message:

DB Error: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '?' at line 1

The problem is that I don't really know anything about SQL, so I don't know what it's even telling me to check or what syntax to change. Can anyone help me with this, hopefully as though I'm someone with little frame of reference for what the problem even is or how to solve it? We haven't made any recent changes to OJS or to our hosting or anything; no idea why this even started when we were just chugging along as usual.

Thanks!
Dan

Hi Dan,

What version of OJS are you using? Has it been modified?

2.2.4. (We tried upgrading a while ago, and the site reacted very poorly.) No modifications beyond CSS.

Hi Dan,

I'd strongly suggest working through an upgrade before debugging this any further -- the upgrade will certainly solve the problem, and you're putting yourself at risk by avoiding it. If you have trouble with the upgrade, we can help you out here.
